Re-enactment Fort Hire

Fort Amherst is the perfect location for re-enactment Groups whatever period of history you are interested in. More >

Fort Amherst is a wonderful educational resource for those studying Napoleonic history, 2nd World War history and also local Medway history.  We welcome school groups and can arrange a one hour tour of the tunnels with one or more of our trained guides tailored to the specific age group of the children. You are also very welcome to picnic in our extensive grounds and there is even a children's play area.

Small gifts and souvenirs are available in our Visitor Centre which is open every day from 10am until 4pm and also serves hot and cold drinks, ice creams and light meals.

Tickets for 1 hour Educational Tours are priced at £2.50 per child.

 

Opening Times:

The parkland grounds of Fort Amherst are open free of charge 7 days a week from dawn to dusk. 

Tunnel Tours take place every day at 11.00am and 2.00pm.  Additional tours may be run at busy times. Please see our Tunnel Tours page for further information and to book.

Dogs:

We regret that dogs, with the exception of guide and therapy dogs, are not permitted on site, other than to use the designated footpath which runs through the grounds. All dogs must be on a lead whilst in the grounds of the Fort.

Parking:

There is free on site parking for those visiting the Tunnels and Visitor Centre. Entry is by the Visitor Centre and parking is in the Caveyard.

Disabled Access:

The tunnels are regrettably unsuitable for wheel chairs and those of limited mobility. Disabled parking, access and toilet facilities are available at the Visitor Centre in the Caveyard.

Toilets:

Toilets are available in the Visitor Centre including a disabled facility.

Guide Book and Shop:

The Guide Book (price £3) contains a site map and full information on the site. There is also a small shop within the Visitor Centre which sells souvenirs and gift items.
